Viktor Viktorovych Valieiev1 January 1984 — 19 April 2022

Viktor Valieiev was the initiator and organiser of the founding of Software Ukraine. This Association is his idea and his life's work. This page is our memory of him.

Viktor was born in Kyiv and graduated from the Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute.

A builder of the community

Viktor was one of the people who built Ukraine's modern IT community: he organised the first professional conferences, supported and reformed IT education, drove informatisation projects, taught and lectured. He led the IT Ukraine association and later became director of Software Ukraine, the association he himself had initiated.

Defender

In 2017 Viktor left his position and joined the Armed Forces of Ukraine, serving in the ATO/JFO. After demobilisation he returned to the work he loved. From the first days of the full-scale invasion he went to the front again — this time for the last time.

Serviceman Viktor Valieiev was killed on 19 April 2022 while performing a combat mission in Donetsk region. The defender was 38 years old. He is buried at Berkovetske cemetery in Kyiv.

Memories

"For a while it felt like a terrible clerical error — that this simply could not be true. He was so young and full of strength. He never truly returned from the war to ordinary civilian life. He was beside us, working effectively as director of the IT association, yet in his thoughts he was always with his brothers-in-arms. We were also developing a rehabilitation and reintegration programme for war veterans. We did not have time to finish it…"

Vladyslav Bovsunovskyi, Association marketer, friend and colleague

The work continues

Software Ukraine carries on what Viktor started: defending the interests of the Ukrainian software industry he lived for. Together with colleagues he had begun a rehabilitation and reintegration programme for war veterans — they did not have time to finish it. We remember that too.
