Future growth and scaling for Ukraine's defence tech sector

The #URIF Industry Day focused on transforming Ukrainian defence tech, scaling challenges, and integrating local innovations into the global market.

Yuriy Syvytskyy, Member of the Supervisory Board of Intecracy Group, participated in the second #URIF Industry Day, organized by the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council. The main topic of the Strategic & Emerging Technologies panel was the integration of the Ukrainian defence tech sector into the global market.

Transformation and scaling of defence technologies

Ukrainian defence tech has already outgrown the format of wartime quick fixes and has emerged as a fully-fledged industry uniting thousands of companies. Currently, the key challenge is systemic scaling. To take the industry to the next level, the following are required:

  • access to structured capital;
  • establishment of corporate governance;
  • infrastructure for entering international markets;
  • integration into global technology chains.

The role of systems integration

Today, defence technologies function as complex ecosystems requiring a reliable digital foundation. In this context, the expertise of complex IT systems developers is critical. Building resilient platforms, ensuring data security, and integrating diverse solutions into a unified architecture will allow local innovations to transform into a sustainable business capable of competing globally.

Why it matters for the industry

The integration of Ukraine's defence tech into the global market will accelerate the transition from temporary wartime solutions to a highly competitive, standardized industry. This shift will attract international venture capital and create high-value partnerships for local IT developers, positioning Ukraine as a leading global hub for military software and systems integration.

Next steps

To successfully scale and enter international markets, Ukrainian defence tech companies and IT developers should take the following practical steps:

  • Implement robust corporate governance and align security protocols with international standards to build trust with global investors.
  • Focus on developing secure, interoperable digital architectures that can seamlessly integrate with Western military ecosystems.
  • Leverage local expertise in complex systems integration to transition from standalone products to comprehensive platform solutions.
