The Faculty of Informatics and Computer Engineering (FIOT) at KPI is one of the largest providers of IT specialists in Ukraine, partnering with the NGO "IT Education Development," which aims to reduce the brain drain of talented students.
Experts are building a new IT ecosystem, including the innovative "FIOT Hub," an intelligent robotodrome, and a smart park. Intecracy Group and Software Ukraine Association support this and similar initiatives.
Serhiy Telenyk, Dean of FIOT at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute:
— The hub and robotodrome will serve as a platform for inventions by our talented students and mentors from Ukrainian IT companies, as well as an access point to the international scientific community for our students. We have implemented global best practices and anticipated all requirements for inclusive education while planning these innovative spaces, as we are all equal in our ideas and should have equal opportunities to realize them.
An effective model of interaction between faculty, students, and business was adopted from international scientific institutions, such as MIT and other top universities, where the development of the educational base is not 100% dependent on state funding and is supported by various donors.
Anatoliy Boyko, co-founder of the NGO "IT Education Development":
— The digital economy and IT technologies are playing an increasingly important role in the GDP structure of many countries, including Ukraine. As a FIOT alumnus, I deeply understand the need to create decent conditions for the education and work of the young generation of IT professionals. Our talented students should not have to think about moving abroad; they should have a full range of opportunities for self-realization in Ukraine. We are creating one such opportunity—combining both education and practical participation in large-scale IT company projects in one location: the "FIOT Hub."
The "FIOT Hub" and the intelligent robotodrome are located on the KPI campus in Kyiv and will be connected by a green zone—a smart park.
Olena Khalus, Deputy Dean of FIOT at Igor Sikorsky Kyiv Polytechnic Institute:
— Our team is already collaborating on hub and robotodrome projects with leading companies. We are also open to collaborations and are currently in negotiations with a number of government and international organizations.
The "FIOT Hub" is scheduled for completion in September 2021, and the intelligent robotodrome in 2022. The projects are non-profit, open, and barrier-free, not only for KPI students but for those from other universities as well. Access conditions and the schedule of planned events will be available on the FIOT website.
